This Cookies Policy explains how CaperQwest, provided by Remidus Ltd, uses cookies and similar technologies. Related details are in our Privacy Policy.
Do we need your consent?
No consent is required for the cookies Remidus sets itself. We only use a strictly necessary session cookie so you stay joined as a team or signed in as Game Master. That falls under the PECR exemption for cookies that are essential to provide a service you request.
We do not use advertising, social-media, or analytics cookies. There is therefore no “Accept all / Reject” marketing cookie wall.
Exception — Google Maps embeds (Game Master control room only): map preview iframes from Google can set third-party cookies. We only load those embeds after the Game Master chooses to show the preview (consent for that functional third-party content). Player phones use Leaflet with OpenStreetMap tiles (not Google embeds) for the in-app live map.
Browser location permission is separate from cookies: your phone or browser asks when you tap Allow App Access. Choosing Allow (and Precise Location on iPhone if offered) lets the App show your GPS pin and distance on map stops. That permission is stored by the browser/OS, not as a Remidus tracking cookie.

Similar technologies on your device (not HTTP cookies)
These are stored locally by the App so features work. They are not used for advertising. Consent is not required for these essential storage items under the same “service you asked for” rationale, but we list them for transparency:
- localStorage
apca_app_access_v1/apca_app_access_v1_<teamId>— remembers that you completed the Allow access step on this phone so we do not re-prompt every reload. This is not the same as browser location permission; if you later block Location in site settings, GPS will stop until you allow it again. - localStorage
apca_gps_check_v1/apca_gps_check_v1_<teamId>— remembers that you finished the short GPS check screen (blue-dot map) before entering the lobby. - localStorage — remembers which Game Master announcements you have already opened.

- IndexedDB (
apca-hunt) — offline queue for GPS/events until your network returns. - localStorage notice flags — remembers that you dismissed the cookie information banner, and (for Game Masters) that you allowed Google Maps previews.
Third-party content that may use cookies
- Google Maps embeds (control room map previews only) — loaded only after you tap to show the preview. Google may set its own cookies. You can still use “Open pin in Google Maps” (leaves our App) without loading an embed.
- Google Maps / walking navigation links — if you open them, you visit Google’s sites under Google’s policies. Players are encouraged to use this fallback if the in-app GPS pin is unavailable.
- Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google’s servers; this typically does not set cookies on our domain but does involve a network request (IP address) to Google.

OpenStreetMap tiles (
tile.openstreetmap.org) — used for the in-app live walking map on location stops (Leaflet). These tile requests support the map feature; they are not Remidus advertising cookies. -
OSRM routing (
router.project-osrm.org) — used to draw a walking path between your GPS position and the stop pin on that live map. - Script CDNs (e.g. Leaflet, jsQR) — deliver libraries needed to scan codes and show maps.
How we tell you on first visit
A short banner explains that we only use essential cookies and links here. Dismissing it stores a local preference so we do not keep showing the same message. It is an information notice, not a marketing consent request. Camera and location prompts appear separately when you tap Allow App Access in the player lobby.
How to delete cookies / storage
Clear site data for projects.remidus.com in your browser settings
(cookies, local storage, and IndexedDB). That will sign you out of the hunt /
control room and clear offline queues, the Allow App Access flag, and notice
preferences. Revoke camera or location separately under the site’s permissions
in Safari, Chrome, or system Settings.
